Talk about a centerpiece for your holiday table or buffet!  This easy ham has all the right layers of flavors to be a true southern star.  Just a hint of molasses, notes of sweet apple and the smoky depths of Worcestershire sauce just sing under a layer of sticky pecans.

The glaze is easy to make.  All of the ingredients (except the pecans) are whisked together in a sauce pan over medium to low heat and cooked down to a thick, rich reduction.  But get ready.  It’s going to smell so good.  You’ll be tempted to sneak a little taste.  Go ahead.  This is going to be one of the best hams you’ll ever make.

The chopped pecans are folded into the glaze last.  Their new, glossy molasses coat makes them the perfect partner for ham.  As you pour the glaze over the ham, make sure to work it well into the scoring.  Even tuck in a pecan or two here and there.  It only makes everything better.  As the ham bakes and you baste, you’ll be able to layer on more sweet and sticky pecans.

Every holiday table needs a star.  And this ham is sure to be a main dish that no one forgets!  Invite your family and friends to share life’s special moments with you, around the table filled with easy, fabulous food!

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325° Fahrenheit.
  • In a medium sauce pan over medium-low heat, whisk together brown sugar, apple juice, molasses, dijon, butter, cayenne and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a low boil. Continue to cook down while stirring occasionally for 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in pecans and set aside.
  • Remove rind/skin and most fat from ham. Place ham, cut side down/bone side up in roasting pan.  Score ham either in diagonals or squares so that the glaze and fat can cook down into the ham.

  • Rub about ½ of pecan glaze into ham, making it gets down into the scoring. Make a tent with foil and cover ham so that the foil does not touch it. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour.
  • After 1 hour, turn up oven temp to 350°, remove foil and baste ham with ½ of remaining glaze. Cook for 15 min. uncovered. Add rest of glaze and cook for another 15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes. Spoon drippings from pan over ham, place on garnished platter to serve.
