A good mark of hospitality is the graciousness with which you greet all who come to your door. And there is no welcome like the welcome we show the bright colors and crisp temperatures of autumn when they finally arrive. With arms thrown open wide, we invite autumn to our porches, to don a festive corsage, to sit a spell amongst the pumpkins, to hang from our front doors and bid us cheery hello, to exchange scarecrow grins, to sip cider and spiced tea and bathe us in golden light. And she obliges. Gracious guest and gracious host put summer to rest and look with anticipation to new things to come.
I know that you will enjoy these 7 fall porches that beckon visitors with just such hospitality.
Keeping it simple highlights the best of fall at Julia Maddox’s historical home in Huntingdon, TN.
The landscaping does all the talking at Cogan’s Farm in Henderson, TN., which is breathtaking any time of the year, but there is just something special about fall on the farm.
I know this is not a porch, but have you ever seen anything cuter? What a great way to welcome guests!
Here’s another gem from my hometown. A focused color palette creates a sophisticated look.
Angie Moss, of Gilmer TX, came home to find that her mother in law had this surprise waiting for her. What is better than a porch to bring friends and family together.
Jodie King, of Milan, TN, likes a bit of whimsy on her porch.
And lastly, the ASD porch. I was inspired by the thought of snuggling up in a plaid throw and reading a book one afternoon. We’ll see if I actually get the chance! Oh, and pumpkin stacks. I just can’t get enough of pumpkin stacks.
I hope these porches inspire and encourage you to grab some pumpkins and do something special on your porch this fall!

Julie,
This was so fun to do! I loved driving all over the area, photographing and visiting with the amazing women who put these porches together. They were so gracious. And I was super grateful to Angie’s and Jodie’s friends who answered the call for reader nominations and Angie and Jodie for sending me their pics! Loved seeing all the things we gals are investing in our homes!
