Monday Coffee Break #3

Do you have your coffee cup?  I do!

It’s Monday morning alright.  And sometimes it’s hard to stay positive in our fast paced world.  Thank goodness for the right kinds of friends who pat our hands, hand us a hanky and then help us get back on the right track by helping us refocus on the good in our lives.  Being an “encourager” is a gift.  And having a friend who is an encourager is an even bigger gift.

But here is the kicker about encouragement.

You have to be willing to receive it.  Let’s just be honest.  Sometimes, we don’t feel like being positive.  Even after we’ve had the chance to get things off our chest, there are those occasions we don’t feel like moving on and moving forward.  We would rather sit in our stew just a little bit longer.  Or maybe indefinitely.  We’ll just have to get back to you when we feel like feeling better.

But there’s real danger in that.  Every moment we choose to stay in turmoil or hurt is a minute that we are not moving forward with our lives.  And I’m telling you what, I don’t have enough minutes to give away like that.  And even worse, the cheerleaders in our lives can’t do the work of picking ourselves up for us.  And they will get tired of cheering if we’re determined to stay where we are instead of grabbing onto their helping hand.

Sometimes, you just have to encourage yourself.   And then there are those are those times when we have to take matters into our own hands and cheer ourselves on instead of waiting for someone else to do it.  1 Samuel 30:6 says that David encouraged himself in the Lord.  It was a decision he had to make.  No one was there to pump him up.  He could either stay in despair (and he had reason to be), or he could gather himself up and move forward. How?  By choosing to focus on God’s promises instead of the circumstances, by simply giving thanks, through praising God for just being God and then seeking His wisdom.

It’s a faced paced world out there for sure.  And it’s easy to let the details get you down and wear you out.  But don’t let this Monday get the best of you.  Grab your cup of coffee and let’s take our coffee break!

MONDAY COFFEE BREAK: INSPIRATION, ENCOURAGEMENT, RECIPES

Righteousness: 5 Reasons It’s Not About Us    Think you don’t measure up?  Don’t worry none of us do.  And thank goodness it isn’t about that at all!

Southern Discourse 2016 Fall Porches  This bundle of porches is one of my favorites!  Take a second to stroll through and peek at the reader submissions from 2016.  I am still on the lookout for this year’s porch feature.  Send me a quality photograph of your porch or the porch of your friend who always does it up for fall.  The deadline is Oct. 10, the porches will be featured right here on Southern Discourse the following week!

Southern Cottage Pie  Sit down this week and enjoy this family favorite.  I grew up eating this hearty meat and potatoes pie, and comfort food like this is hard to beat!

That’s it for this week’s Monday Coffee Break. Thanks for stopping by and having a cup with me as we slowed down for just a minute and started our week off right!
