It’s that time again- time for a look back at this year’s Derby weekend! All over the south, we southerners celebrate the weekend of The Kentucky Derby with miles and miles of derby pie, mint juleps, and enough feathers, flowers, fluff and fancy to choke a horse. It’s glorious. Every inch of it. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. For me, Derby weekend always consists of getting together with my friends at The Dixie, enjoying the all-out bash they throw for the Derby (Derby Day at The Dixie), then sharing it all with you. Sure there were horses at that little place in Kentucky. But at The Dixie, the hats and eats are only outdone by their indisputable small-town southern hospitality.
We were inside this year due to rain, but that didn’t dampen our fun. We still tailgated, had a silent and live auction, chose winners for best Derby hat, men’s attire, best Derby food, best tailgate, and still had time to choose a winning horse and watch the race on the movie screen in the Hal Holbrook Theatre.
If you love these photos and this event as much as I do, i would love for you to come hang out with me next year at Derby Day! We are already making plans for a Southern Discourse Triple Crown tailgate loaded Derby goodies. Can’t wait to see you there! For even more Derby Day pics, check out the Derby Day at The Dixie, 2018 Photo Gallery.
Want more Derby? Then, you don’t want to miss my very first Derby Day and my winning Derby tailgate eat, Bourbon Maple Candied Bacon!
And as always, a gracious thank you to our partner, The Dixie Carter Performing Arts & Academic Enrichment Center in Huntingdon, TN.
