Now that the weather has finally turned cooler, we are all joyfully scrambling to don those boots and cozy sweaters we’ve been eyeing in the backs of our closets for the past month. To make sure our wardrobes don’t miss a beat this year, M&M Consignment in Jackson, TN, has some insider tips on 2016’s cooler temp trends, along with all the affordable designer must-haves in an easy-to-follow gift guide.
As soon as the temperatures hinted that they might be thinking of dropping, M&M Consignment’s Morgan Moore (who is completely fabulous, by the way) and I headed out to The Farm at Casey Jones Village in Jackson, TN so she could bring me up to speed on 2016 Autumn/Winter’s trends and share some of her best insider tips on which items I could easily incorporate into my current wardrobe to create fun, current looks.
The Farm is a “hands-on Southern food experience,” featuring farm-to-table gardens and raised beds, log cabins, a century old barn, cotton gin building, and chapel. The Farm is the first American Heart Association Teaching Garden in West Tennessee dedicated to promoting sustainable living through agriculture. This heritage rich setting was perfect for showcasing the luxe patterns and toasty textures that make warmer clothing so appealing.
This year, it’s all about booties, jacket, and vests in plaids and southwestern/tribal prints. Mix in fur, tweed, interesting clasps, zippers, or scarves for texture. Consider a wide-brimmed felt or wool hat to top it off.
Looking for some great gifts this holiday season? An eye-catching scarf in someone’s favorite color, plaid puffy vest, or texture rich bag are all winners this year.
Texture is the star again when thinking scarves, fun fringed bags, and even jewelry. Throwing in just a touch of sparkle only adds to the appeal.
Plaid totes, gold-rimmed aviators, and long or short strand freshwater pearl and leather necklaces are big go-tos this year as well.
Think some of these designer gifts might not fit into your holiday budget? Morgan recommends consignment shopping in high end neighborhoods. Barely used and sometimes even new items can be snagged at just a fraction of their department store costs, not to mention the personal sales service and attention that accompanies small business boutique shopping during the busy holiday season. Added benefit to your scoring the perfect gift for less (making you the proverbial holiday hero)? You get the chance to strengthen your community and local economy. And what says ‘ho, ho, ho’ more than that?
