The Dixie Carter Performing Arts & Academic Enrichment Center just hosted their 5th annual Derby Day at The Dixie!
Derby Day at The Dixie is a fun-filled event that celebrates all the time-honored traditions of the Kentucky Derby and is free to the public. Held on race day, attendees come decked out in their best derby attire, enjoy derby style tailgates with more southern fare than one can eat, take a stab at choosing the winning horse, win goodies at a silent auction, and listen to live Kentucky blue grass music! Awards are given for best female derby hat, men’s attire, and best tailgate. Afterwards, everyone moves into the theatre to watch the race together on the big screen, cheering like mad as the horses thunder down that last stretch to the finish line.
This is my second year to attend this event, and it is still hard for me to believe that Derby Day is one of the best kept secrets around! I didn’t get as many pictures this year as I did last year, but maybe you can still get an idea of just how much fun Derby Day at The Dixie is. If you haven’t made it to Huntingdon, TN for the best derby event this side of the Kentucky line, you need to make plans for next year!
