Homeschool Groups can be called co-ops, tutorials, support groups, or umbrella groups and usually meet 1-2 times a week. Homeschool groups oversee all or part of a student’s learning by giving guidance, accountability, and evaluation of student progress. This method can be very helpful if a family wants:
- help gathering resources and choosing curriculum (the curriculum is usually chosen by the group),
- keeping track of records, or
- outside accountability
Or if a family feels they need help:
- navigating and planning their child’s education, or
- correcting or evaluating progress.
Families who are members of homeschool co-ops, tutorials, or other groups don’t mind giving up some flexibility and following the schedule/calendar of the group.
Googling “homeschool groups in (your town and state)” should render a number of results, as well as conversations with other homeschool families in your area.
